Ephrem, a deacon of the Church of Edessa, authored many things in the Syriac language. He achieved such fame that in some churches his writings are read liturgically, after the reading of Scripture.
I read a book of his On the Holy Spirit in Greek that someone had translated from the Syriac tongue, and, even in translation, I felt the acuteness of its sublime genius .
He died in the reign of Valens.
